Food Growing 101: A Primer for the Kitchen Garden

Join Dr. Jared Barnes as he provides a primer on cultivating edibles for Texas. He will cover cultivars and varieties you should be growing, issues that he and his students have seen in their student garden the Plantery on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus, and how these plants can be used in creative ways and designs. Attendees will learn about reliable edible plants to grow for Texas, common issues that can arise, and how to use edibles in design.

    Dr. Jared Barnes’ teaching and research interests include crop science, fruit and vegetable production, nursery management, plant breeding, southern perennials, and ecology and cultivation of designed herbaceous plant communities. He earned a doctorate and a Master of Science in horticultural science from North Carolina State University, and he holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Tennessee at Martin. He is the faculty advisor for SFA’s Horticulture Club.

In 1992, Landmark moved from Garland to Coppell, Texas to set up new corporate headquarters and begin a long term goal of expanding facilities to service landscapers across the state. Since then, four other wholesale distribution locations have been added to major markets in Texas.
